Second the best.

I actually have nothing for the best - not that nothing here is the best; I just haven’t found something in the last few days that made me go “THAT is the best”. A couple I walked past on the street today both said they liked my t-shirt and, then, I walked past them again 5 mins later, and they said it again. That was pretty cool actually. Another contender would be the wide variety of paper towel-dispensers I have come up against in the last couple of weeks. Some are automatic, and you wave your hand under them, and it folds out a predetermined length of paper towel. Free-refills too. For my money, more useful and quicker than a hand-dryer. Just a thought.

This week I have done my first acting of the course. I took it very seriously, and wanted the teacher to see just how much work and dedication I’d be putting into this term. It was, in honesty, not good at all. But a) if you can’t fuck up in a classroom then when can you? and, b) lesson learned to chill the f out and enjoy it. I’m quite uncertain about the punctuation in that last sentence, and I debated on it for a long time. I want just a comma there, but the question mark feels necessary, and list forms, in my opinion, are somewhat malleable. In another class, I am having to choose a character that I would like to explore, and through the course I’ll essentially be them, and taking them on the method journey - as if I had been cast in the role, basically. I’m so excited about this one in particular because the only restrictions were that they were my age, and that they were human. I.e. no being a Jedi, or the Terminator (but, you don’t ask, you don’t get, right?). Oh and they have to be contemporary too, so Life of Brian is out. My shortlist was either Brad Pitt (Chad) in Burn After Reading, and Jude Law (Jerome) in Gattaca. The choice was made, and I’m going to be Jerome.

Three cheers for Jerome.

Now Jerome and I are about to go on a journey together - starting next week when I’ll be exploring his life as an animal. By which I mean, I’ll be researching which animal best fits his characteristics, and then exploring how that animal feels, and then translate that to Jerome. I also discovered that I am the only person in my class that has seen Gattaca. Including the teacher. Maybe I’m being melodramatic, but that is surely insane. This is something that I’ll be doing a lot of now - being unbearable about films you have to see. I watched Citizen Kane the other day, so get ready. I just scrolled up and saw how much bollocks I’ve written. It’ll have had a trim by the time you’re reading this, so think what you nonsense I’ve save you from. All casual readers, this is your stop. For the hardcore followers of this story, this next bit is going to be more tidbits from around town.

Now we’ve separated the wheat from the chaff, here are a few more POI from my journey in Americaland. I went to a comedy night the other day on my road, and it was delightful. Stand up where each acts’ theme was that it was 1973, which was pretty fun. I watched Mulholland Drive at a midnight showing at the New Beverley Cinema (Google it). It was also delightful. I’ve added, like, 5 new people on Instagram, including an Uber driver. Also: I decided that the theme of this trip is learning, new beginnings, new perceptions and open-mindedness so, in the spirit of that I decided to see if I could learn to like blueberries. I bought the first packet of blueberries ever on Wednesday and I had them for breakfast this morning, and they were great when covered in porridge and maple syrup. But I did not hate them, and will be finishing the packet.

This week’s honourable mention stories:

I met someone called Paris and she’s from Texas. Like the film Paris, Texas. I don’t think she’s seen the film.

I did my first grocery shop at Trader Joe’s

I lost a key

I changed my route home so I could see different stuff

I found a new favourite song - Amarillo by Gorillaz

I helped in “The Mystery of the Abandoned Bagels”, and I was predictably unsuccessful

I nearly snatched the second spot in Fantasy Premiere League

I got beef with a bird.

I honestly don’t know if this is a good or bad length for a blog. I have no idea what I’m doing. I think the best course of action is just for me to keep throwing out diatribe on my small and quiet corner of the internet, and I’ll get a natural feel for it in a few posts and I’ll be bearable again. Thanks for reading this far if you did! In America we’d say that you were the “MVP”. Restecp.
